Rita's Recipe - Water Infusions

The trend now is infused waters. They encourage you to drink which helps not only the digestion system but has weight- balancing effects. They are not inexpensive to buy! But you can make them at home.

You can make infused waters plain, or fancy!

One of the most popular is detox water. You can make that with a squeeze of lemon and drink it in the morning. The vitamin C is good for your immune system and lemon water helps detoxify the liver. If you want a bit of sweetness, raw honey, an ancient sweetener, is a good source of antioxidants.

Cucumber and mint would be a good combination.

I like that infused into a sparkling, fizzy water. Cucumber is super hydrating and mint is good for digestion.

Watermelon and pineapple are good combos, too. Melons are mostly water, and pineapple helps soothe a sore throat. I use the core of a pineapple for infused water.

Try adding apple slices and/or peels, cinnamon sticks and whole cloves to water. After infusing, strain and drink.

Pomegranate seeds infused in coconut water is not only beautiful, but tasty, too.

How long does it usually take for the water to be infused?

Citrus infuses right away, but usually count on 20 minutes or more.

I usually put in 1 stick, 4” long to a cup or so of water. Bring to a simmer, turn heat off, cover and let infuse a few minutes until the aroma wafts out. I drink it hot but iced cinnamon water would be nice for hot weather.
