City Council Votes to put School Resource Officer in Shelby
Shelby City Council voted Monday to enter into contracts with Shelby City Schools and Pioneer Career and Technology Center to put school resource officers in both schools.
RichlandSource.com reports that the cost is a 75/25 split with the city of Shelby and the schools. Pioneer has had a resource officer for the last 4 years and Shelby Police Chief Lance Combs said they looked at the success of how that program has worked.
Combs said that with school violence and the drug problem it’s helpful that Shelby Schools have a resource officers like the Pioneer Career and Technology Center. Both school boards, who meet later this month, must approve before it goes into effect.
