Fatal Crash Investigation on Gass Road near State Route 97
Troy Township – The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mansfield Post, is investigating a single-vehicle crash involving a 2019 Ford Mustang on Gass Road between Lexington Ontario Road and State Route 97. The crash happened on March 9th, 2026, at approximately 10:14 PM. The crash occurred when the driver failed to maintain adequate control while driving south towards State Route 97. The vehicle crossed over the centerline, drove off the left side of the road, and struck several trees. The car came to rest on the roadside where it became engulfed in flames. The male driver, whose identity remains under investigation, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
Gass Road was temporarily closed during the crash investigation with the assistance of the Lexington Police Department.
Lexington Police Department, Washington Township Fire and EMS, Troy Township Fire and EMS, the Richland County Coroner’s office, and Shelly Smith and Son’s Towing all assisted at the scene.
