ASHLAND POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING INCIDENT
The Ashland Police Division, in cooperation with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and with assistance from the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a shooting at 102 East Liberty Street.
The incident began with a 911 call from resident John Palermo, who was not injured.
At approximately 2:15 p.m. on January 1, 2026, officers and Ashland Fire Division personnel responded to the scene and found 61-year-old John Grehn deceased inside the home.
Robert Palermo, 24, of Ashland, was taken into custody and is being held at the Ashland County Jail pending review by the Ashland County Prosecutor’s Office.
Detectives executed a search warrant at the residence to collect evidence related to the shooting.
The Ashland County Humane Society took custody of a dog found inside the home; the animal was unharmed.
The investigation is ongoing.
There are no safety concerns for the community at this time.
