The remains of a missing 19-year-old swimmer, Victor Castaneda Jr., were found on a Florida beach, according to the Miami-Dade medical examiner. Castaneda went missing on November 9 after he and his 17-year-old sister were caught in a rip current at South Pointe Beach.
Castaneda managed to save his sister but was then pulled out by the current. His remains washed ashore on a beach in Key Biscayne on Tuesday (November 12). Key Biscayne is about 15 miles south of where Castandeda was swept out to sea.
The Miami Beach Police Department has expressed its condolences to the family and offered support during this difficult time.
Victor's sister, Chloe Castaneda, remembered her brother as a hero.
"I do know that my little brother was in the water with my little sister, and he saved her life. He is a hero," she said.
The investigation into the teen's death is ongoing, but no foul play is suspected.
