Knox County Man, 23, Arrested, Charged with Aggravated Murder

On August 14th, 2024 at approximately 10:02 PM officers of the Mount Vernon Police Department responded to an apartment building at 105 South Gay Street on a requested welfare check.

Upon their arrival the officers made contact with the reporting persons. When the officers entered the apartment two adult victims, one male and one female, were located. Both individuals were deceased at this time and there were no other persons in the residence. The building was then secured as a crime scene.

Detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department were called to the scene, along with investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), the Knox County Coroner’s Office and the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office.

Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the community.

As the investigation continues, further details of the incident will be released as appropriate. In accordance with the provisions of Ohio’s Marsy’s Law, the victim’s identifications will not be released.

On August 15th, 2024 Officers of the Mount Vernon Police Department Patrol Division located and detained a Mount Vernon resident, Cameron Ray Moore (23) in connection with the active homicide investigation of the two deceased persons at 105 South Gay Street, on August 14th, 2024.

Detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department in consultation with the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office subsequently arrested Cameron Ray Moore. Moore has been initially charged with two counts of Aggravated Murder in the deaths, and additional charges may follow as the investigation continues. The evidence indicates that Moore acted alone and is the sole assailant in this vicious crime.

Moore was transported and booked into the Knox county Jail without incident. He is being held without bond pending further judicial proceedings.

In accordance with the provisions of Ohio’s Marsy’s Law, the victim’s identifications will continue to be withheld until the victim’s family’s consent to their release or other judicial proceedings are made public.
