The Richland County Foundation Board of Trustees approved $2,070,011 in grants during its August meeting. A large portion of the grants were for educational purposes.
The board approved $789,086 in scholarships to Richland County students. Scholarships are awarded based on a student’s financial need and grade point average. The average scholarship amount this year was $3,000.
RCF also awards career technical education scholarships throughout the year. The board approved $4,800 in CTE scholarships during this meeting and the year to date total is $33,350.
The board approved education grants totaling close to $66,000. Funding was provided from the unrestricted grant budget as well as field of interest funds. Education grants are selected by a committee made up of board members and people from the community for creative and innovative supplemental programs not covered by school funding. The grants are given to K-12 teachers in public or private Richland County schools to encourage them to develop new programs for their classrooms.
$80,000 will provide grant prize incentives to nonprofit organizations during Richland Gives November 18 through December 3.
