In Ashland County, there is a shortage of lawyers.
RichlandSource.com reports, there are 43 members that are listed on the Ashland County Bar Association, but only 23 are active attorneys.
This, comes as last year in 2023, the Ashland County Common Pleas Court logged a record number of criminal cases.
There are 52,000 people living in Ashland County, so that’s one lawyer for every 2,600 people.
Judge Dave Stimpert said, the numbers have dwindled over the years and there is not an influx of new, young attorneys.
