On October 29th, 2023 at approximately 0636 hrs, Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office investigated a fatal crash that occurred on State Route 4, north of Denzer Rd. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2013 Ford Focus, was northbound on SR 4. This vehicle was reported to be driven by Daveon Brown, age 19, Sandusky OH. The passenger was identified as Malaky Johnson, age 19, Sandusky OH.
Brown went left of center and off the West side of the roadway. Brown struck a culvert and overturned. Brown was ejected from the vehicle and came to rest on the roadway. The vehicle came to rest in the West ditch on it’s top.
A second vehicle, a 2013 Honda Accord was also northbound on SR 4. The vehicle was driven by Todd Schifer, age 52, of Marion OH. Schifer struck Brown who was laying on the roadway. Schifer pulled over and came to rest along the East side of the roadway.
Bucyrus Twp. Vol. Fire Department, Bucyrus City Fire Department and Dallas Two. Vol. Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Johnson was transported to the Bucyrus Hospital, where he was treated and released. Brown was pronounced deceased at the scene. Schiefer did not report any injury.
Carl’s Towing responded and removed both vehicles. This crash remains under investigation with no other information available at this time.
