Shelby Declares Building Destroyed By Fire In August, Unsafe

In Shelby, City Council this week passed a resolution declaring the property on Main Street, which was considered a total loss from a fire in late August, to be unsafe structurally defective and dangerous.

According to RichlandSource.com, the building at 50 East Main, sustained heavy damage from a fire on August 31st, which fire Chief Mike Thompson credited quick work by firefighters, telling WMAN, they saved most of a city block.

Joe Gies, Shelby Project Coordinator, said, the owner of the property will have 30 days to come up with a plan for demolition or fixing the property.

Councilman Garland Gates talked about concern over residents’ safety and said, the sidewalk needs barricaded off.
