Patrol Investigates Fatal Crash in Morrow County
Chester Township - The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred on August 20, 2023 at approximately 4:30 pm. The crash occurred in the southbound truck parking on Interstate 71 near milepost 149, Chester Township, Morrow County.
Alexander Jones, age 51 of Indianapolis, Indiana, was operating a 2016 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle southbound on Interstate 71. Mr. Jones exited into the truck parking where he struck the rear of a parked semi-tractor trailer. The semi-tractor was a 2005 Peterbilt 379 owned by Lanita Specialized LLC of Mount Aetna, Pennsylvania pulling a 2015 Mack trailer owned by Diller Leasing of Mount Aetna, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Jones was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel. Mr. Jones was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol and/or drug use is unknown at this time.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Morrow County EMS, Big Walnut Fire Department, Morrow County Coroner’s Office and the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office.
