Tim Tarvin spent 11,315 days working in the Shelby City Schools, the final 4,380 as the district superintendent. According to Richland Source, Mayor Steve Schag wasn't going to let him retire without just one more. Schag declared that July 31 will be recognized as Superintendent Tim Tarvin Day in the city. Tarvin announced in October the 2022-2023 school year would be his last. The board of education approved his retirement in February. Tarvin has worked in education for almost 42 years, the past 31 spent in the Shelby City School district where he began as a high school social studies teacher.
