2024 Mid-Ohio Spring Classic
The Wendy’s Spring Classic and MVD Sports Ohio Invitational high school softball tournaments are moving to Ontario’s Marshall Park beginning in April, 2024. The venue change has resulted in ending the 30-year partnership with the Ashland Wendy’s restaurants and the name change to the “Mid-Ohio Spring Classic”. The name of the MVD will remain the same.
“We believe the move to Marshall Park and its artificial turf fields gives the tournaments a better chance of playing more games throughout the weekends. Over the past two years, we have only played 19 of a possible 66 Wendy’s games and zero games on those Saturdays.” said Spring Classic Director John Davis.
The tournaments’ mission is to raise scholarship money for area high school softball players. Over the previous 30 years, nearly $140,000 has been awarded to assist 164 local young ladies further their education.
“Gate receipts are our major source of revenue and there are no gate receipts when the games aren’t being played. Two years ago we played nine games at alternate sites and weren’t able to collect admission fees.” Davis said. The MVD Sports Ohio Invitational will be held April 12 & 13 while the Mid-Ohio Spring Classic will play the following weekend, April 19 & 20.
