Water Main Initiative, Income Tax, Headed To November Ballot In Mansfield

It looks like a water main initiative is headed to the November ballot in the city of Mansfield.

According to RichlandSource.com, a 7-1 vote by council on Tuesday, will now see a ¼ percent income tax go in front of voters this fall.

The proposal, which came from local attorney Eric Miller, who helped launch the pot hole haters tax. The water main initiative would generate $17 to $18 million over 4 years.  Mansfield engineer, Bob Bianchi, said it would take close to $80 million to replace all of the 4 inch water lines in Mansfield, which some are close to 100 years old.

The income tax would cost around $100 annually for someone making $40,000 per year. The initiative is for Fire Safety, as right now, there are 2,400 addresses in Mansfield, which are not within a reasonable distance of a properly working fire hydrant.
