Officials from the city of Mansfield and Richland County were on hand last Friday, as the Sterkel Park For All Project, is now officially underway.
Michelle Giess, Superintendent of Richland Newhope, said, the event last Friday was to celebrate the start of the construction project. Some of the funds are being released to start ordering materials for the first phase. Bids will go out soon for concrete work. Total cost of the project is between $5.5 – 6 million. Around $4 million has already been raised. The expansive 20 acre park and playground is expected to be one of the largest of its kind in the state. The project, which hopes to see some portion complete later this year, will be done in 3 or 4 phases.
