The home bleachers and press box at Skiles Field in Shelby are being demolished. R&D Excavating is handling the work, which should be done in the next week. The plan is for the Shelby Schools to turn over the property to the city of Shelby, who then will give it to the local CIC, Community Improvement Corporation.
The group has plans for the community space, which is part of the downtown revitalization project in Shelby.
The bleachers at Skiles Field were first installed in the summer in 1928. The stadium hosted its final football game last year, August 19th, which the Whippets won on a walk-off field goal by Casey Lantz.
