Hillsdale Local Schools Select New Superintendent

Mansfield, OH (March 20, 2023) – Hillsdale Local Schools has chosen a passionate and skilled individual to lead the district as superintendent. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Catherine Trevathan will take on this title. She has served in administrative positions in the United States and overseas for over 15 years and will bring with her a history of leadership and experience working with students and staff from all backgrounds. Trevathan was chosen from a strong field of 33 applicants.

MOESC Superintendent Kevin D. Kimmel assisted the district in choosing the right candidate for the job and congratulated Trevathan on her new position: “I commend the Hillsdale Local Schools Board of Education for involving their staff and school community in providing feedback during the final round of interviews. I would like to wish Dr. Trevathan and the Hillsdale Local School District the best of luck as they continue to provide top-quality education to the students and families in the Hillsdale community.”

The board started the search for a new superintendent early this year, looking for a qualified candidate with strong collaborative skills and a vision for future students to supersede Steve Dickerson, who served Hillsdale for over a decade. Dickerson worked to build an enduring foundation for the district and has helped ensure a great 2023-2024 school year. Trevathan will take on the former superintendent’s responsibilities when she starts her three-year contract on August 1, 2023.

Hillsdale Local Schools Board President Vella King warmly welcomed Trevathan: “The Hillsdale Board of Education is excited to welcome Dr. Cathy Trevathan to the Hillsdale Family. Our Board was impressed with Dr. Trevathan’s enthusiasm and dedication to her profession. Her passion for students and experience as a leader will assist Hillsdale in operationalizing our new mission and strategic plan.” The Board of Education looks forward to utilizing Trevathan’s skills to progress the education of students at Hillsdale Local Schools.

“I am truly honored to join the Hillsdale family as the new Superintendent,” said Trevathan. “The continual dedication and commitment of the Board of Education, educators, staff, students, and families in this community are impressive. It is my privilege to serve alongside these talented individuals as we work together to enhance the educational experience and empower the next generation of learners.”

Trevathan promises to deliver an “exceptional educational experience for every student in the Hillsdale Local School District” and says that “together, we will build on the district’s successes and address the challenges to ensure that each and every student reaches their full potential.” She and her family look forward to being welcomed into the district and becoming part of such a wonderful community.
