In Ashland County, the Commissioners recently heard an idea, which is to transform the former County landfill on County Road 1754, into a solar power facility.
According to RichlandSource.com, the presentation came from a company, CEP Renewables, out of New Jersey. The proposal was to build a solar powered field on the east and west parcels of land at the former landfill site. The company has 11 solar projects total in the US, Europe and Asia. The only other location, in Ohio, is located near Cleveland, in Brooklyn. The former Ashland County landfill opened in 1970 and closed in 1997, which still costs the county between $80,000 - $90,000 annually, to monitor ground water and gases.
