Richland County Commissioners Deny ARPA Funding For New NECIC Building

The Richland County Commissioners have denied a $2 million request in American Rescue Plan Funds, from the North End Community Improvement Collaborative, towards their new planned $15 million community center.

RichlandSource.com reports, the meeting between the Commissioners, NECIC officials and board members became heated at times.

Commissioners Cliff Mears and Darrell Banks, both said, they are not in favor of supporting the project, while Commissioner Tony Vero said, he still supports the project, if NECIC can secure the needing funding.

Mears was concerned with the numbers he reviewed, while Banks stated, he does not feel NECIC would generate enough revenue to cover the costs to operate the new building.
