No Flashing Light: Amish Men Could Face Jail Time For Not Paying Fine

More than 20 Amish men appeared in Ashland County Court late last week for refusing to pay a fine for not displaying a flashing light on their buggy.

According to RichlandSource.com, the group all were given a ticket in the last few months, after the new state law went into effect last year.

All told the Ashland County court they will not pay the fines, due to religious beliefs.  Ashland County Magistrate Fred Oxley told one defendant to “to be prepared to be sentenced to jail” if they continue to refuse to pay.  The next hearing is April 14th, where most of the fines are around $150.  The men said, their religious beliefs require them to keep their buggy plain and simple.
