UPDATE: Winter Storm Elliot's impact on Mid-Ohio

A WINTER STORM CONTINUES TO IMPACT ROAD CONDITIONS, ELECTRICITY FOR MANY RESIDENTS AND THE STRONG WINDS ARE STILL THE BIGGEST CONCERN HEADING INTO THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY.MUCH OF MID-OHIO IS SEEING SUSTAINED WINDS OF 25-35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 60 MPH. WHILE POWER OUTAGES ARE NOT AS HIGH AS THEY COULD BE, IT’S STILL POSSIBLE TO SEE MORE AS THE WINDS WONT REALLY DIE DOWN UNTIL SATURDAY AFTERNOON. 

THE WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7AM SATURDAY AND WIND CHILL WARNING UNTIL 10AM. ACCORDING TO EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS, ROAD CREWS HAVE BEEN DOING THEIR BEST TO MAINTAIN ROAD CONDITIONS BUT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM CONTINUES TO BE THE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW AND ICY CONDITIONS BELOW THE SNOW.

WINDCHILLS COULD BE AS LOW AS 35 BELOW AND TEMPS BELOW 0. REMEMBER, FROSTBITE ON EXPOSED SKIN CAN OCCUR IN AS LITTLE AS 30 MINS. ALL COUNTIES IN OUR COVERAGE AREA ARE UNDER A SNOW EMERGENCY, SEE UPDATED LIST AT OUR STATIONS FACEBOOK PAGE. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL, KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT, FOOD AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE. AVOID OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES IF POSSIBLE AND WHEN OUTSIDE MAKE SURE TO WEAR APPROPRIATE CLOTHING, HAT AND GLOVES. THE LATEST ROAD CONDITIONS CAN BE FOUND BY CALLING 5-1-1.

WARMING CENTERS HAVE BEEN SET UP ACROSS ASHLAND COUNTY, TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, ASHLAND CO SHERIFF’S OFFICE, HAYESVILLE FIRE STATION 8, SAVANNA FIRE STATION 6 AND ASHLAND TRANSIT WILL PROVIDE RIDES FROM 6AM-9PM
