Mapleton Looking At Levy Due To Upcoming Deficit

The Mapleton School Board recently discussed a proposed new income tax levy after a forecast shows the district’s deficit is expected to reach $700,000 over the next 5 years.

According to RichlandSource.com, treasurer Katy Wiley said the district in the projection won’t have any cash in fiscal year 2026 and 2027. Part of the reason for the growing deficit is due to declining enrollment, which affects how much money the district receives from the state of Ohio.

The district says this past fall sports season they lost around $87,000.
