MANSFIELD - The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held in Richland County tomorrow evening. The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. "There were 13,762 OVI-related crashes in which 720 people were killed last year in Ohio," said Lieutenant Jason P. Murfield, Mansfield Post commander. "In 2021, troopers made more than 18,000 OVI arrests in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways." The location of the checkpoint will be announced Saturday morning. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds you to call #677 if you suspect an impaired driver.
