ASHLAND COUNTY - Work is scheduled to begin next week on an intersection improvement project at U.S Route 250 and State Route 89 in Ashland County. This is a safety project aimed at reducing crashes by lowering the profile of the roadway to allow for better sight distance for motorists and widening the intersection to better accommodate truck turns.
This location was identified after Governor Mike DeWine asked ODOT to create a list of the 150 most dangerous intersections in Ohio. This intersection was ranked 29 on the list.
Beginning on Monday, June 13, U.S. 250 will be closed in both directions between Township Road 523 and Township Road 355 as crews begin work lowering the roadway. State Route 89 will be reduced to one lane at U.S. 250, but traffic will be maintained at all times.
“Our goal is to make Ohio roads as safe as possible, and by directing resources to Ohio’s most dangerous intersections, we’ll save lives, prevent crashes, and improve travel,” said Governor DeWine.
There were 18 crashes reported at the intersection from January 2014 to December 2017 with six of those crashes resulting in injuries.
The $1.2 million project was awarded to Shelly and Sands Inc. in March 2022 and is expected to be complete in October 2022.
