At approximately 0708 hours on May 11, 2022, correctional staff found an unresponsive female inmate, identified as 29 year-old Maggie Copeland, in a cell in the medical unit of the Richland County Jail. Correctional Officers and the Jail’s medical staff responded to the cell and immediate, life-saving measures were performed. Staff summoned emergency medical services to the Jail and the Mansfield Fire Department arrived transporting the inmate to Ohio Health Mansfield ER for treatment whereby the female inmate was pronounced deceased at approximately 0742 hours. The incident is currently under investigation.
