$272,000 Grant To Help Mansfield Police Detect Gunfire In The City

A $272,000 dollar grant is on its way to the Mansfield Police Department to help extend their coverage of the Shot Spotter technology to be able to detect and respond to gun shots in the city.

Police Chief Keith Porch told WMAN that right now they only have a 1 mile range of the technology and hopes to expand it to 3 miles.  The Chief said he is awaiting more details, but this is a force multiplier and allows his force to be alerted to shots fired in seconds, rather than in minutes by phone calls. Sensors are placed on light poles and buildings around town to alert police of any gun fire.
