The Mansfield Fire Department says it spent $1 million dollars in overtime last year because of staffing issues.

Assistant Fire Chief Jim Bishop said the department is at “bare minimum in terms of staffing, according to RichlandSource.com.

Mansfield right now has 91 firefighters, 4 of which are in training, which led Bishop to suggest adding more to the department. Many firefighters were forced into mandatory overtime last year due to COVID-19 and other illnesses.
