– Troopers from the Marion Post are investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on November 30 around 9:05 p.m. on State Route 4, north of mile post 4, in Bucyrus Township, Crawford County.

The crash involved a 2020 Ford Mustang, being driven by a juvenile and a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Samantha S. Burchett, age 23, of Bucyrus. Preliminary investigation indicates that the Ford and Hyundai were northbound on State Route 4. The Ford drove left of the centerline attempting to overtake and struck the Hyundai. The Ford traveled off the east side of State Route 4, struck a traffic sign, a ditch, a tree, and overturned before coming to final rest in a field. The driver was ejected from the vehicle.

Mrs. Burchett did not sustain injuries at the time of the crash. The juvenile driver sustained serious injuries and was transported by Bucyrus City EMS to the Avita Health System-Bucyrus Hospital. The juvenile was later flown by Medflight to Nationwide’s Children Hospital in Columbus.

Troopers were involved in two vehicle pursuits with the Ford Mustang prior to the crash. Both pursuits were terminated due to dangerous speeds and erratic driving. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Bucyrus City EMS, Bucyrus Township Fire Department, Dallas Township Fire Department and Ed’s 24-Hour Service.

This crash remains under investigation.
