WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded three grants to airports in Northeast Ohio, totaling $4,999,910 for operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at the airports. These funds are made possible through the American Rescue Plan, which Brown helped write and pass.

“Ohio airports are vital infrastructure supporting travel and commerce in our state,” said Brown. “These investments will provide Northeast Ohio airports with the resources they need to ensure the safety of their passengers and support the local economy.”

FAA funds include:

$59,000 grant to the City of Akron for the Akron Fulton International Airport.

$4,908,910 grant to Akron Canton Regional Airport Authority for the Akron-Canton Regional Airport.

$32,000 grant to Ashland County Airport Authority & Ashland County Commissioners for the Ashland County Airport.

The FAA supports public-use airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) through the Airport Improvement Program. The program supports projects that improve airport safety, capacity, security and environmental impact.
