16 Year Old Dies In Ashland County Crash

Troopers Investigating Single Vehicle Fatal Crash

Mohican Township – Troopers from the Ashland Highway Patrol Post are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on State Route 179 near Township Road 405 at approximately 4:10 PM, on September 28, 2021.

Troopers responded to the scene and found an SUV on its top in a bean field. The vehicle was traveling south on State Route 179, when it overtook a vehicle in a no passing zone, lost control, drove left of center, over-corrected, went off the right side of the road, struck a ditch, and over-turned multiple times. The driver was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver of the SUV, 16 years old, from Willard, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The passenger, also 16 years old, from Greenwich, was transported to a local hospital with injuries.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The passenger was wearing a seatbelt. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Jeromesville Fire/EMS, and White’s Towing.

Speed is considered to be a factor in the crash. Drugs and or alcohol do not appear to be involved. The crash remains under investigation.
