Richland County - The Ohio State Highway Patrol Mansfield Post is investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash that occurred on May 17, 2021, at around 10:46 PM. The crash occurred on IR 71 near mile post 164 in Jefferson Township.
The crash occurred when a 2020 Freightliner commercial truck driven by Robert Schull age 52 of Independence, Kentucky, struck a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by George W. Crawford, age 70, of Mansfield, Ohio, from the rear while traveling in the right lane. Schull sustained no injuries from the crash. Crawford succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger traveling with Crawford, identified as Eugene Murphy, age 64, of Calumet, Illinois, was transported to Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital where he was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The following agencies assisted on scene; Washington, Troy and Jefferson Twp. Fire and EMS, Richland County Coroner’s Office, and Mike’s Towing. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
