Ashland Highway Patrol Investigating Fatal Crash On I-71 Thursday Night

Montgomery Township – Troopers are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Interstate Route 71 southbound near Mile Post 183 in Ashland County.

On Thursday, February 18, 2021 at approximately 2207 hours, a 2014 Kia Sorento was northbound on Interstate Route 71, actively being reported as a reckless operator. The vehicle crashed into the center median guardrail as troopers were being dispatched. Troopers responded to the scene and the driver of the crashed vehicle crossed into southbound lanes on foot and was struck by a southbound 2015 Chevrolet Trax just before Troopers arrived.

The pedestrian, Tyrrell Dushaun Louden, 38 years old, of Atlanta, GA, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, Dustin Reese, 50 years old, of Lancaster, OH, was not injured and remained on scene.

Interstate Route 71 was closed for approximately 3 hours.

Other agencies assisting at the crash scene were: Ashland Fire and EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ashland County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation, however, the driver of the Chevrolet is not considered at fault.
