Mansfield Police Detectives Investigating Shooting Incident On Newman St.

February 11th, 2021

Subject: Shooting Investigation

At approximately 9:27PM last night, an officer on patrol heard multiple gunshots coming from the 200 block of Newman Street and responded to the area. As additional officers responded to assist, the PSCC/Dispatch 911 Center began to receive calls of multiple “shots fired” in that same area and that a vehicle had fled the location at a high rate of speed.

While checking the area, officers made contact with LeBron Tiggs (22-year-old, B/M) who advised that unknown persons had fired shots into his residence at 291 Newman Street, from a vehicle and that at some point, Mr. Tiggs advised he had returned fire at the vehicle. While speaking to Mr. Tiggs, officers were advised that a 16-year-old Black male juvenile had arrived at Ohio Health Mansfield suffering from a single, non-life threatening, gunshot wound. No additional information on his condition or possible involvement is available at this time as he was undergoing treatment and the investigation is ongoing.

The scene was processed and evidence of the shooting was collected and submitted to the Forensic Science Section. After consulting with the Richland County Prosecutors Office, Mr. Tiggs was charged with “Discharge of a Firearm on or Near Prohibited Premises” which is a 1 st degree felony and incarcerated at the Richland County Jail.

Anyone with additional information concerning this incident is asked to contact Detective Richard Clapp at (419) 755-9470.
