Ashland Highway Patrol Investigates Crash On US 30

Troopers Investigating Multi Vehicle Commercial Crash

Vermillion Township – Troopers are investigating a minor injury crash involving two commercial trucks and a passenger car that occurred on Friday, January 22, 2021 at approximately 1923 hours on US Route 30 at State Route 511 in Ashland County.

A 1999 International semi-truck was traveling southbound on State Route 511 at US Route 30. The driver of the semi failed to yield from a stop sign while crossing over US Route 30 and was struck by a 1997 Freightliner semi-truck which was travelling eastbound on US Route 30. A 2013 Lexus RX was struck by the semi-trucks as a result of the crash while the driver was stopped at a stop sign on the southern side of State Route 511 facing northbound.

The driver of the Lexus, Melissa Becker, 50 years old, of Jeromesville, OH, was transported to Avita Health in Ontario, OH with minor injuries. The driver of the Freightliner, Charles Whiting Jr., 64 years old, of Sebring, OH, was transported to Ashland Samaritan Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the International, Ricky Shultz, 59 years old, of Loudonville, OH, was not injured.

Portions of US Route 30 and State Route 511 were closed for approximately 3 hours.

Other agencies assisting at the crash scene were: The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Hayesville Fire & EMS, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The driver of the International, Ricky Shultz, was cited as a result of the crash.
