Lexington posted the following information on the school's website that they are postponing all athletic contests until further notice due to Richland County turning purple.
Below is the full press release posted on the schools website.
Student-Athletes and Families,
Today Richland County was placed on Level 4 (Purple) within the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. Due to this, and to the current spread of COVID-19 within our community and county, the Lexington Local Schools has decided that it’s in the best interest of our student-athletes and their families to postpone all athletic contests until further notice. We understand the disappointment this decision will most likely bring to our student-athletes. Rest assured, we will continue to monitor this situation for our student athletes and their families on a weekly basis and look forward to continuing competitions as soon as possible.
High School and Junior High athletic teamswill continue to practice at this time.We value the structure that will continue for our student athletes, as they continue to learn remotely from home, and then have the opportunity to transition to their designated practice time.
Please know that coaches will continue to ensure all safety protocols are followed, which includes the recording of daily symptom checks. We continue to ask parents to monitor their students for a fever of greater than 100.4 degrees, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, headache, loss of taste or smell, or exposure to anyone with COVID-19 like symptoms or has tested positive for COVID-19. As we know, communication between families and coaches is essential, especially if you believe your student or a close household member may have been exposed to COVID-19.
Finally, we value the importance that interscholastic athletics plays in the lives of our student-athletes, and we will continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 to determine when we can resume athletic contests with other schools. Hopefully, this pause in athletic competition is a short one, but again, one that we feel is necessary at this time.
Thank you and stay well.
