OhioHealth expands access to needed services in Crawford County
$1-million investment will include an urgent care and additional family medicine and specialty medicine providers
GALION, Ohio– OhioHealth, the region’s largest healthcare provider, announced today it invested more than $1 million to expand services and add up to 20 new jobs in Crawford County. The announcement was made during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, November 10, for OhioHealth’s new primary care and specialty care practice in Galion, at 745 Carter Drive, within the Galion Discount Drug Mart Plaza. OhioHealth will also be adding an urgent care in Bucyrus. Both of these locations will complement the primary care, specialty care, and lab and imaging services that OhioHealth currently offers in Crawford County.
“My family has been practicing in Bucyrus for more than 40 years. I’m excited about the continued commitment and investment that OhioHealth is making in Crawford County,” said Dr. Christopher Johnson of OhioHealth Physician Group Primary Care, located at 725 North Sandusky Ave, in Bucyrus. “These services will improve the continuum of care for my patients, as well as provide a quality, convenient and affordable option for Crawford County residents.”
Geoff Gregory, vice president of OhioHealth Physician Group North Region, added, “Drs. Johnson and (John) Oehler have a successful and well-respected primary care practice in Bucyrus. As more and more patients choose OhioHealth for their care, we recognized the need to open another primary care practice in Galion. We anticipate this new practice will be just as successful and will offer a high quality, lower cost option for Crawford County residents when it comes to selecting a primary care physician.”
The OhioHealth Physician Group practice in Galion opened October 10. Primary care providers Lee Ann Ivy, CNP, and Karen Crane, CNP, working with William S. Ballinger, MD, will help a patient’s routine health with prevention and wellness services, sports physicals, and sick care. In addition, specialists from OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital’s nationally-recognized heart and vascular program will be seeing patients in Galion. Experienced cardiologists Gregory Eaton, MD, and James Bacon, MD, along with vascular surgeon W. Don Craske III, DO, will provide their expertise and offer convenience and choice for Galion and surrounding area residents. There are plans to expand the practice to also include specialists in orthopedics, oncology, and neurology. The primary care practice is accepting new patients. “We also believe Urgent Care is an important element in the continuum of care for patients,” said Gregory. “Helping patients avoid the Emergency Room for care that doesn’t require that level of care is just the right thing to do. Out of pocket costs for emergency care is far greater than a visit to urgent care. Patients will be able to receive care at our urgent care location when their primary care office is closed (evenings and weekends), and can have access to care for injuries and illnesses that can’t wait.”
The OhioHealth Urgent Care Bucyrus will open at 1820 East Mansfield Street this winter. As the only urgent care in the county, the location will be open seven days a week with hours that extend into the evenings for patients with injuries and illnesses that are not life-threatening but need to be cared for promptly. OhioHealth also offers convenient urgent care services in Marion and Ontario. Urgent care offers a more affordable choice compared to emergency services for less emergent cases, such as flu, minor breaks or sprains, animal bites, and minor burns. OhioHealth orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jay Guth and the Kidney Associates, Inc, currently share time at this Bucyrus location and will continue to see patients during and after the construction. The location will be expanding its imaging capabilities.
