According to Richland Source, the local NAACP chapter was able to give a record $1,700 each to five area students, according to outgoing scholarship chair Alice Williams, a retired Mansfield City Schools educator, who started the scholarship program six years ago.
The program is administered through the NAACP committee, but all the scholarship funds come from community donations. According to Williams, the NAACP does work with the community and this is one thing we wanted to do to bring attention to the students who are going to school in Richland County.
