Confirmed Cases: COVID-19 Notification Letter & Robo Message - 10/19/2020

Good Evening Ontario School Families:

This is Superintendent Carmichael. As you know, we have been open since August 19thand have been doing very well. Unfortunately, we received notification of our first positive student COVID case on Saturday, October 17thwhen we were notified that an Ontario High School student tested positive for COVID. All families of the twenty-two (22) exposed students were notified on Sunday, October 18thand will be quarantining for a fourteen (14) day period.

Today, Monday, October 19th, we were notified of our second confirmed student COVID case. Again, this second case was an Ontario High School student. All families of the forty-two (42) exposed students were notified on Monday, October 19thand will be quarantining for a fourteen (14) day period.

On Monday, October 19th, we were also informed of a third confirmed student COVID case. This third case is an Ontario student who attends Pioneer. The Pioneer administration notified the thirteen (13) Ontario students who were exposed. They too will be quarantining for a fourteen (14) day period.

While these three cases are very unfortunate, this certainly does not rise to a school closure. We are going to remain open as long as it’s safe to do so.

Every time that we are notified of a student or staff member who tests positive, we will inform our families via social media, robo call system, and/or our COVID-19 page on our website. We will continue to follow all guidance and protocols from the Richland County Health Department once we receive notification of a confirmed COVID case.

In summary, as of today, there are two Ontario High School students who have tested positive for COVID, and one Ontario student who attends Pioneer who tested positive for COVID.

If you should have any questions, you are welcome to contact me at (419) 747-4311.

Lisa A. Carmichael

SUPERINTENDENT
