Shelby To Rename Part of Street "Charles Follis Way"

The city of Shelby plans to rename a portion of Black Fork Street, just north of the high school football stadium, Charles Follis Way.

Mayor Steve Schag says this is in honor of Charles Follis, the first black professional football player in America. Charlies Follis moved from Wooster to Shelby and played for the Shelby Blues in the early 1900's.

The dedication in memory of Charlies Follis will take place on Friday, Sept. 25th at 10 am. The Shelby Whippets play a big home game later that night vs the Lucas Cubs at Skiles Field.
