Serious Injury Hit-Skip Crash Involving Horse & Buggy On US 250

The Norwalk Post of the State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a two vehicle serious injury hit-skip crash that happened at 9:48 P.M on Sunday, August 16, 2020. The crash occurred on US250 just north of the Ashland County Line in Greenwich Township, Huron County.

A 2000 Toyota Camry was south bound on US250 near mile post 19. The Camry struck the rear of a south bound horse drawn buggy carrying four people. All occupants were thrown from the buggy. After impact, the Camry fled the scene south bound on US250. The vehicle and driver were later located in Ashland County.

The driver of the 2000 Camry has been identified as Renold R. Workman, age 58, of Vermilion Ohio. Mr. Workman was not injured. Alcohol use is suspected as a factor in the crash.

The buggy was being driven by Aaron Hoover, age 53, of Greenwich. Mr. Hoover sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. A female passenger, Marian Hoover, age 51, of Greenwich sustained injuries and was transported to University Hospitals Ashland. A female child, Luann Hoover, age 15, also sustained injuries and was transported to University Hospitals Ashland. A male child, Mark Hoover, age 11, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The horse also sustained injuries.

The patrol was assisted at the scene by the Huron County Sheriff’s Department, Ashland County Sheriff’s Department, the Tri-Community Joint Fire Department, North Central EMS, Wilcox Towing, and A&M Towing. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
