Press Release from MPD Social media

The Mansfield Division of Police had a very busy start to the weekend as they responded to several gun related calls.

Early this morning at approximately 0105 hours, Mansfield Police Officers responded to the American Legion at 460 Harmon Avenue in reference to an Injury Crash. Upon arrival, officers found a chaotic scene in the parking lot with multiplecars damaged and several individuals injured. One victim, a White female, was found laying on the ground next to a Black female victim, both of whom had been struck by a vehicle. The White female victim was, also, found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

Further investigation revealed a shooting had taken place which had caused the crash(s) as patrons attempted to flee the location, resulting in the victim being run over. A short time later, a Black male shooting victim arrived at an area hospital, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, apparently related to this same incident. The investigation is open and no arrests have been made at this time. The gunshot victims remain in the care of healthcare providers.

In addition to this call, officers were, also responding to Sami's Bar located at 178 Wayne Street in reference to a Disturbance/Fight call at 0103 hours. Upon officers arrival, numerous people were observed fleeing from the area. Patrons advised officers that a Black male subject with dreadlocks had fired shots, causing them to flee. Fortunately, no one appeared to be struck by the gunfire and the suspect, who had fled, was not able to be located.

At approximately 0212 hours, officers responded to the 500 block of West 4th Street in reference to a "shots fired" call where a home and vehicle in the driveway had been struck by gunfire. The suspected shooter fled in a vehicle prior to officer's arrival and was not located.

All of these incidents are open and it is unknown at this time if they are connected.

These investigations are in the preliminary stages and there is no additional information to release at this time. The Division is thankful for assistance received from the Richland County Sheriff's Office during these incidents.

Numerous individuals were at the locations on Harmon Avenue and Wayne Street when the incidents occurred and may have helpful information about what led up to the shootings and who was involved.

It is imperative that when these types of incidents occur, that the community helps in identifying those responsible for these violent acts. We are asking that anyone who can assist with the investigations, to please call The Mansfield Division of Police at (419) 755-9724.
