Ashland City Council Police and Fire Levy on November Ballot

Ashland City Council this week passed legislation to place a 5 year, quarter percent income tax on the November ballot for employing and equipping fire and police personnel, that according to RichlandSource.com.

Ashland mayor Matt Miller said this is a renewal of an existing tax and in a good year, would generate around $800,000, which would then be evenly split between the departments.

Currently, the Ashland Fire Department has a staff of 37, the police department has 29, but is allotted for 32.

Police Chief David Marcelli said, recruiting officers has been challenging.
