Richland County Commissioners Approve Creation of COVID-19 Relief Fund

The Richland County Commissioners Tuesday approved the creation of a COVID-19 relief fund, which could see $2 million dollars in federal aid.

RichlandSource.com reports, the problem will be finding ways to spend it.

According to Richland County Auditor, Pat Dropsey, the money has too many strings attached and can only be used for COVID-19 expenses and not to cover any revenue shortfalls due to the pandemic.

Dropsey said "To me, all of the county's employees were deemed essential back in March and so I have an argument that makes payroll a vailid COVID-19 expense.

Dropsey went on to say that the answer to that question is not yet known and he doesn't believe the county could spend the $2 million dollars by Dec.30th.
