Stephen King Gives OSR Permission to Share His Novella On Line

The Ohio State Reformatory Mansfield is proud to bring you a new reading and recording of the Stephen King novella that started it all: “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.” Available in installments on the OSR Facebook page, this is an incredible gift from these two movie legends.

“This represents a dream come true for the millions of fans of the movie," said Thomas Clark, The Shawshank Specialist at OSR, “Given so many people love the film, and yet with the world in lockdown, we at OSR try and find ways to keep the movie’s message of hope alive. That message of hope fulfilled is never been more relevant, or more needed. So we reached out to Mr Frank Darabont and asked he if he would be so kind to ask Mr King on our behalf. Mr Darabont said the response from Stephen King was simply, “Of course!”

The first installment will be posted on our Facebook page at 1PM today. Part 2 airs tomorrow. It will end up being about 10-20 parts.

With these installments you’ll get to enjoy,

- The story’s original message of hope — brought to you by the building where the beloved film was shot

- Another way to enjoy the story of Red and Andy

- More reasons to admire Stephen King and Frank Darabont!

- Another way to help us support the ongoing rehabilitation of the historic landmark and movie location

- Keeping Mansfield and the Shawshank Trail top of mind in the US and around the world

"The two creative minds responsible for the world’s favorite movie have generously given us a huge opportunity to make people happy in lockdown.

Thanks to their generosity, we’re delighted to give the world another form of “escape.” What a treat to be able to listen in on the audio version of the hopeful friendship of Andy and Red — the story that stared it all — from the two creative minds most responsible for the world’s favorite film” - said Clark. VISITwww.facebook.com/OhioStateReformatoryto hear the readings.
