ACTA Committed to Ashland Students
On Thursday, February 27, the Ashland City Teachers’ Association (ACTA) met to vote on the results of the fact-finding report. The membership voted to approve the report, which put several points of contention to rest.
“Overall, we felt that this was a fair settlement for everyone and we’re pleased that we were able to get this settled with the Board. I think we’re all ready to get back to business as usual, and continue to do what we have been doing, which is serving the students of Ashland,” said ACTA spokesperson Rich Wasowski.
ACTA president Mel Baker said that she felt this was a fair report for everyone─the students, teachers, Board and community. “We’re so glad to come to an agreement with the Board,” she said, adding that she hoped this would be a positive first step toward rebuilding a relationship with the administration of the Board. Baker also encourages the Board to work towards a resolution of contract negotiations with the OAPSE staff, saying that “all staff should be treated equally and fairly.”
The Teachers Association would like to thank the community for their continued support. We would also like to thank the YMCA, Park Street Brethren Church, Trinity Lutheran Church and Christ United Methodist Church for opening their doors and allowing our members to use their facilities. Thank you to the community members and businesses who supported ACTA by posting signs and donating food and snacks to our staff in our schools. Your dedication and patience sustained us as we followed this process to a positive outcome.
Ashland City Teachers’ Association is affiliated with the Ohio Education Association which represents 121,000 teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff.
