A gas leak caused an evacuation Saturday afternoon. Just before 1 several people called in reporting an explosion in the area of Hanley Road and State Route 42 near Lexington. The leak was at a small pump station located at the corner of U.S. 42 and Hanley Road. The incident was a broken pipe. Around 1000 people were without gas service to their home. Hanley Road was closed after the incident. No injuries were reported. AEP shut off electricity in the area for a short time. Columbia anticipates gas will begin to be restored to residents today.
