The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held in Richland County tomorrow evening.
The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and interdict impaired drivers.
In 2018 there were 996 fatal crashes in Ohio resulting in 1068 deaths. Of those fatal crashes 367 were OVI related resulting in 402 deaths. In 2018 the Ohio State Highway Patrol removed 26,614 impaired motorists from the roadway. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways. The location of the checkpoint will be announced on Saturday August 24.
