Commissioner Marilyn John Announces Candidacy for House District 2

Richland County Commissioner and Republican Party Chairwoman Marilyn John announced her candidacy for the Ohio House of Representatives District 2.

Marilyn has worked as a public servant for the past ten years, serving as Mayor of the City of Shelby from 2010 to 2015 and Richland County Commissioner from 2015 to present, winning reelection for both seats.

“Serving the residents of Richland County has truly been an honor and I look forward to continuing my service as State Representative for Ohio’s 2nd House District,” John said. “My work as a Mayor and County Commissioner has included fiscal, conservative budgeting, strengthening economic development and developing strong leaders for our future. I look forward to bringing my experience to Columbus to better serve the people of Richland County.”

Improving the financial outlook for Richland County has been Marilyn’s priority since taking office. Over the past four and half years, she has helped establish a rainy day fund, stabilize carryover funds and create a five-year capital improvements plan.

In addition to her public service, Marilyn works in the private sector as a Commercial Lines Underwriter for Shelby Insurance. In her community, Marilyn is Director of the Shelby Senior Center. She also created LeaderRichland, a leadership program for junior high school students to talk about career paths and workforce opportunities, which has served over 7500 students to date.

Marilyn has been on the Leadership Team for the Richland Community Development Group for the past 8 years, is a member of the Rotary Club of Mansfield and the County Commissioners Association of Ohio. She and her husband, Kevin, have two children and attend Crossroads Community Church.
