Ashland UH Samaritan Appoints New Chief Medical Officer
Timothy Kasprzak, MD, MBA assumed the role of Chief Medical Officer effective June 1, replacing James Mooney, M.D., who stepped down after serving in the role for the past four years. Dr. Mooney remains at UH providing inpatient clinical services.
Dr. Kasprzak comes to UH from the MetroHealth System where he served in multiple leadership roles including Medical Staff President and Director of Abdominopelvic and Oncologic Imaging.
Dr. Kasprzak was impressed with UH Samaritan and the Ashland community immediately, stating “I decided to join UH Samaritan because of the opportunity to have an impact during a time of significant change. The team at Samaritan is outstanding and it is a sincere honor to be able to serve them. The strong sense of stewardship amongst the employees of Samaritan was clear to me the first time I walked into the hospital. The staff are energized by our mission and their enthusiasm for taking care of the patients resonates with me.”
He added, “The best-selling feature of Samaritan and the city of Ashland is the strong family atmosphere that permeates. The genuine sense of care and concern that people have for each other in this community is unparalleled. It is my goal to contribute to the health, well-being and happiness of this exceptional community. The patients are the reason we are here. Everything from our dedicated smiling volunteers at the entrance to our most sophisticated medical interventions is about taking care of our patients. When people come to our hospital as a patient or visitor, they are usually under substantial stress and anxiety. We want to offer a comprehensive red carpet approach to the medical care experience at Samaritan to help ease those concerns.”
Dr. Kasprzak’s focus initially will be on expansion and delivery of care. He offered “Healthcare is undergoing tremendous change as we seek to improve quality and access, while decreasing costs. UH and Samaritan are taking a proactive approach to expanding our community presence and integrating care delivery in a way that is patient centric. We want to deliver outstanding care in the community in
which people live. In the long run, the expansion will enable patients to have more options, better care and a better overall experience with our healthcare system.”
Dr. Kasprzak earned his medical degree at Wayne State University in Detroit and completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center in Dearborn Michigan.
