Highway Patrol Investigating Serious Injury Crash On State Route 545

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on State Route 545 at Piper Road around 5:06PM on June 9, 2019. The crash occurred when a 2014 blue Chevrolet Cruze was southbound on State Route 545, failed to yield and turned left onto Piper Road. While turning, the Chevrolet was struck by a 1975 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was northbound on State Route 545.

The operator of the motorcycle was 63 year old, Richard Wynn of Mansfield, Ohio. Mr. Wynn was transported to Mansfield Ohio Health with life threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was 24 year old, Scott Smith of Mansfield, Ohio. Mr. Smith was not injured in the crash.

Madison Township Fire and EMS responded to the scene. One lane of traffic was maintained on State Route 545 while the crash was being investigated.

Alcohol and drug usage are not a factor in the crash. The operator of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
